Let The Riddim Hit 'Em...For Free DUH

Ok ok ok...we're basically in the middle of the summer. For whatever reason besides my melanin, I equate the summer with Hip-Hop and Dancehall more than I do at any other point of the year. I'm not exactly sure if that actually means anything, but if you like it as much or if you are simply in a Dancehall & Hip-Hop mood, you might want to check this place out here. No cover, and there will be a recession buster according to going.com. Click on this link right here to RSVP and gully creep your ass all the way to Hooper St.

When: Every Thursday
Admission: Free
Where: 291 Hooper St.

District 9 Trailer

Haven't made a trailer post in a minute...so here's one that might get you out of your house. Will it be a summer blockbuster? Who knows? For some reason though, I'm intrigued by movies based in South Africa...whatever...here it is. District 9

Summertime with Dead Prez

Contrary to popular belief, rappers are not obligated to always have the hottest lyrics and catchiest hook in order to make quality music. A prime example of this lies in the video below, Summertime. While they may not be the most lyrically gifted artists in the game, the substance, perspective, and energy they bring to your ears is definitely a rarity in '09. Not too long ago they released their latest mixtape, The Pulse of the People, with Green Lantern. If you haven't, make sure to cop their first project, and my favorite Hip-Hop album, Lets Get Free.

Pool Party Concert Series! (Free Of Course)

I'm late as crap with this one, but there's still plenty of fun to be had. Above are the dates for the concert series being held at the McCarren Park Pool in Williamsburg, BK. Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Prince Paul, and Girl Talk are the only names that I recognized on the list, but I'm pretty sure there are many more talented artists in store for the people. If you hit it up, let us know how it went!

Doin' it...In the Park...for Free

Just in case, you did not know...Bryant Park goes IN year round. I can't get enough of their free and very entertaining events. So here's another one...free yoga starting today, July 21st, until August 27th. This event will be held every Tuesday morning at 10AM and every Thursday evening at 6PM.

For those of you who don't know, Bryant park is located on 5th avenue and 40th st. in Manhattan.

Nixon FA09 Collection

I was over at High Snobiety checking out some stuff that peaked my interest when I saw Nixon's new 2009 lines of watches. The watches are looking classic, modern, simple, and clean...and that of course is never a bad thing.

Click this link for the rest of the watches and the original post.

Dem Nuh Like it

The name's Jahdan, and you probably have heard him most recently on Diplo and Switch's Major Lazer LP, on the song Cash Flow. He's got a mixtape dropping soon entitled, Bazooka Shot, and an album, Buzzrock Warrior. From what I've heard thus far, these two project should be more than solid considering what I have heard. Enjoy Gasoline Dream's first post from the Caribbean!

The Maxwell Mix

After leaving that Badu mix on repeat for the past month or so, I definitely had to share Uncle Q's Maxwell Mix with everyone. I'm assuming he dropped this to help promote the man and his album, Black Summer's Night. Babies will be made to this music...and if not...many people will simply practice.

So here it is...right from Filthy Speaker Addict

Baltimore Club & Super Sexy House!

The bad news is...it's been way too long since I've posted here; however, the good news is that I have more than the Pakistani 20 in my wallet that I always carry. Employment and paychecks are two things of which I'm always fond. ANYWAYZ, you all need to check out this group of DJs known as the Rub. It consists of DJs Cosmo Baker, Eleven, and Ayres. Although straight out of NYC, these dudes play rock sets all over the country and world.

This particular mix is a GEM that I thought I lost a while ago, but fortunately found when perusing the library on my old computer. It's all house and bmore mixes that include everyone from Robin Thicke to frat classic Jesse's Girl.

Ok...enough talking...DL one of my favorite mixes here! I guarantee that you won't find it anywhere else since it's 3 years after the fact. Gasoline Dream exclusive I guess.

Hyperpigmentation in Da Pooo?

Last week, over 60 black and Latino day campers were turned away from a swim club in Philadelphia because of complaints by white adult members of the club that, according to the club's president John Duesler, "[A] lot of kids would change the complexion ... and the atmosphere of the club." According to Feministing.com

Here's the the official news article from NBC Philadelphia

And a childhood friend of mine told me racism didn't exist anymore...I guess it's back for the first time.

Chocolate Factory Death

This is kinda crazy...a young man by the name of Vincent Smith died when he fell into a 120 degree and 8 feet deep vat of chocolate in New Jersey, USA.

50 Best Action Movies of All Time?

Ok...so until I started reading this list that Complex compiled, I didn't realize how much of a fan I am of action movies. I've seen a good two-thirds of this movies, and while I do have some discrepancies with the list...for the most part it's on point. I mean...if it weren't I clearly wouldn't be sharing it. Anyways...check it out.

HIV Positive - AIDS

I stumbled upon this scientifically driven article on the Washington Post website. A lot of times we (myself included) think HIV or AIDS is not that close to home, but I do know someone very very close to me who is infected. He is one of 30.8 Million adults living with the virus according to the international AIDS charity, AVERT.

At first Karen Pancheau figured her son Tyler's nasty rash came from friction on the mats at judo class. But when the rash began dissolving layers of flesh, his father took the teenager for tests, which revealed he had HIV. Karen, too, tested positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, which she'd apparently acquired from a blood transfusion in June 1982 and to which she'd exposed Tyler during childbirth and breast-feeding. Yet as Tyler's HIV slowly progressed to AIDS, Karen remained healthy...

Chocolate Factory

This is a definite departure from the norm at Gasoline Dream, but I figured that might be the reason you could be reading this post now. Sooo...my boy Winslow is baking this chocolate cake over in the Land Down Under as I make this post. Apparently, it's the "Ultimate" chocolate cake. I don't know about all of that...but it looks damn good and could win over some girl's/guy's heart. Click here for the recipe. If you happen to bake it, let us know how it turned out.

Cole Killin' it for NC

It's officially no longer a buzz, J. Cole at Shade 45 with Tony Toca. Check it out.

"Even them white girls trying to be my princess / But I only f*ck with sistas like incest"

The Funeral

While it is late, and up on every blog...this video is so much better than all the others in its genre. So it'd be wrong to not acknowledge it with a post. So here it is...the funeral...but if you wear all black in this heat it'll be the death of you too.

Retro Electrik

Time to take a break from the Hip-Hop being shoved down your throats. The link below is to a song by club/rock group Love & Electrik. I saw the post on discobelle. The song, entitled Sex Video, is a club track that is reminiscent of the days when KTU was that deal playing the old school freestyle tracks. Here it is (direct link).

Johnny B. Bad

Time to lighten, up the mood. Just so you know before hand, this video is of Andy Roddick's older brother, John, at Wimbledon digging for gold. Enjoy!

Football's Finest Fallen...

Gay Sex Still a Crime?

The actual act of gay sex has just been decriminalized in India. Just goes to show that there are still some pretty far fetched laws out there that for which one can definitely do some hard time...no pun intended.

The ruling overturns a 148-year-old colonial law which describes a same-sex relationship as an "unnatural offence"

Check out the BBC's account of the situation here

Killa Cole

Alright, this is late as crap, but I can't afford to get sued by J. Cole, Jay-Z, or Roc Nation. Here's a really interesting interview he did a while ago too with Complex. In all seriousness, dude is nice. Not as consistent that yellow boy who used to play up on Degrassi, but a bit more lyrical and a lot more "Hip-Hop". Lookout below if you're trying to see what he's about.

The Warm Up

King of POP-sicles

Ok, so I haven't been on my cheap/free grind as of late. As a matter of fact...I haven't been on much of any type of grind except my employment one. Anyhow...from whenever it was posted through tomorrow, SideBar is serving 2 for 1 King of Popsicles. They're margarita popsicles, and you get 2 for $5 while you rock out to MJ without the tom foolery of T-Pain on BET. Choose from original, strawberry, or watermelon...yea. Guess I spoke too soon...whatever...here's the address

118 East 15th St.
New York, NY

The Stoning of Soraya M.

I haven't been posting too many trailers in regards to cinema, so here's an interesting one entitled The Stoning of Soraya M. I'm assuming it'll be pretty insightful in regards to domestic violence as well as equal rights for woman in general on a global level. At the end of the day, I just hope it moves both you and me.

The Red I Always Had

So ummm...yea...Wayne isn't the only one who likes em long haired, thick, and redbone...

Cookin' Pop

Nahright, posted this mixtape not too long ago. I knew some MJ tribute would be coming out whether it be a mix or a mixtape, but I wanted to find something both unique and good. I believe this'll suffice. This is a nice little combination that blends MJ with the world's favorite emcees (the usual top 5). I'm usually not a fan of blends, but once you listen to this, you'll see why the exception was made. Not every track is for you, but I guarantee you'll find something you'll like a lot.

Get it hurr

Reverse Racism DOES Exist...

Sorry, for the mini hiatus, but that is what employment does to some people. Anyways, apparently the Supreme Court just recently ruled that White Firefighters out of New Haven, Connecticut were unfairly denied promotions based on the color of their skin. This ruling reversed a decision that Sonia Sotomayor, Obama's Supreme Court nominee, endorsed as an appeals court judge. While it is a victory for many conservatives, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg stated that the men do, "understandably attract this court's sympathy. But they had no vested right to promotion. Nor have other persons received promotions in preference to them." Despite the ruling, what she stated was something very necessary.

Here's the article
