Keepin it One Hunnit

So...racism does exist...
One point that I wish to emphasize here that was mentioned in the Jezebel article concerning this matter is that when one wishes to find out whether or not a certain type of oppression exists, you don't ask the abuser or beneficiary, but rather the abused or target group. Here's the video below

BP3 Lyrics

So here's one pic of the many scans that Nahright got of the BP3 booklet. Just read the verses that Jay is reciting off of the cuff. The second verse of "What We Talkin' About" is actually mind blowing.

Hater Blockers

I honestly don't know what I'd do without Discobelle. I had this sort of emptiness in my life until I found it and Baltimore Club. Speaking of Bmore...you should listen to this track. I think this one could do well.

I apologize for the tardiness of this video, but while I was browsing through the archives at Nahright, I found this video of Cole and his boy XV trying to go rhyme for rhyme with the Heavy Hitter DJ Enuff. Check it out.

JAY-Z & J- COLE Star is Born

My favorite leak so far.
People who are hating on the other songs have to listen closer. The man still has out of this world word play. Listen to Jay like he's teaching an AP class and these other cats are just a real tough teacher in a normal class. You have to dig a little deeper to get the best stuff.

Plus J-Cole is doing his thing.

100 Miles and Annunciating...Yay...

Haha...ok I had to get that out first before I deliver the news. Noreaga, America's favorite super thug, is urging us all to participate in the 100 Miles and Running challenge. Check out the video below...by the way...you know you're a gangsta when you plan on running 100 miles and you never ever weight lift to train your legs.

RIP AM

Friday, the world lost one of the most widely respected turntablists in the game point blank period. A lot people weren't aware of what he accomplished or even who he was. While his untimely death is quite unfortunate, use this as an opportunity to find out more about his craft that he shared with the world, and how much of a beast he really was on the tables and in the business room.

Click here for MTV's article tracking thoughts of him through the eyes of Just Blaze, Stretch Armstrong, Premiere, Khaled, Drama, and Rich Medina.

AM just brought a crazy energy to his parties," Just Blaze agreed. "The way he'd put together the perfect blends of hip-hop, rock, dance and so many other genres is what gave him such a mass appeal. He was one of the few DJs that knew how to cross genres and boundaries without losing the crowd. That's one of the hardest things to do as a DJ. You please one part of the crowd, and then end up losing another. He knew how to keep the energy at 10 for the entire night..."

Back to the Topic with Killa Cole

J. Cole just posted another freestyle via his blog and twitter. I'm posting it, so it's definitely worth a listen. Actually, it's pretty damn good so click on this link now.

"Basic hoes, toss em out / can't even get Waffle House"

SMH...Waffle House is like literally 3 dollars...damn. By the way, they have a twitter account check it out on their website for free coupons.

Exclusively Atkins???

As if we weren't fat enough...problem is...We'll probably all try it. They really tried to substitute bread...next up is probably water. SMH Anyways, check out the video below and click here for the Huffington Post article.

Chelsea FC, Bodega, and Adidas knocking you all upside the head with this Insanely Intense 3 hit combo that is a very exclusive package at this point. Bodega will be selling this out of its store for $279...a pretty penny, but definitely worth it considering the exclusivity, and the amount of things that come with it. Check it all out here.

Loofa Vandraws

I was browsing through Hypem when I stumbled upon Binary Ent.'s blog. They found this Luther Vandross electro joint amongst their myspace friends, and he's a Swedish producer by the name of Odahl. Needless to say, I like it a lot. Otherwise it wouldn't be shared with you and everyone else

The song is a remix of Luther Vandross' "Never Too Much". Luther is the shit, and his silky vocals are always great, but Odahl really builds upon them here

Ong Bak 2

The movie voted number 35 on Complex' top 50 action movies of all time, Ong Bak, has a prequel coming out with more swords, elephants, and knees to the head than ever before. Check out the trailer below.

We Got it 4 Cheap...sike

So...PS3 is nowww...drum roll pleeease...$299. I honestly don't know what to say about that except that it's about time. The Wii and 360 can still be purchased for less.

"The most important figures are 2...9...& 9. In case you haven't figured out what that figure means, that's the price. This version of Playstation 3 will be available at 299, $299 in the United States, and ¥29,980 in Japan..."-Spokesperson-

Actually the most important thing you didn't figure was that we, the consumers, are not stupid. It's probably no coincidence that the further from the Japan it is the higher the price, but I'm still paying the same price in NY as in Cali. Joke's on the left coast and the Europeans I guess...whatever

Block Party and Bass Safari

I know you probably don't know, so it's my duty to make you aware of Mad Decent's annual block party. This event is BANANAS. Free music, food, gifts, and fun. Yes...fun is not always free, but it is when the Mad Decent crew has its block parties in Philly on 12th and Spring Garden. Last year there was a crazy water fight too, so if you want to relive your life as a ToysRus kid, go cop that good Super Soaker.

Furthermore...as the night creeps up on everyone in the Philadelphia area, heads will be migrating to Bass Safari at 941 N. Front St.

Get the tickets for $10 at Sub Division or pay $13 at the door

Tameil, Sega, Flufftronix, Toadally Crossed Out, Dirty South Joe, Gun$ Garcia...and much more will be in the building.

FLASHING...Lights

Tonight, August 14th, Mad Decent, The Rub, Fool's Gold and more will be holding a party down in Chinatown. $10 at the door and $7 if you RSVP at Flashing Lights. DJ Ayres and Nick Catchdubs will be playing the tunes, and there will also be other musical performances like the debut of Mad Decent's own Toadally Crossed Out. Good times are about to happen.

Slaughter's in the House

Hip-Hop's newest lyrical super group, Slaughterhouse, will be invading NYC tomorrow night at the Canal Room on 285 W Broadway. Their self titled album went up on the shelves today, and packs a fair amount of punch. These dudes are too lyrical, competitive, and big headed to let another man outshine him on a track, and this makes for a fulfilling album that is otherwise very dark, twisted, and cold.

Obama > Felix the Cat

"President Barack Obama reminds me of Felix the Cat. One of the best-loved cartoon characters of the 1920s, Felix was not only black. He was also very, very lucky. And that pretty much sums up the 44th president of the US as he takes a well-earned summer break after just over six months in the world's biggest and toughest job." -- Niall Ferguson of the Financial Times

I can't decide if this just obtuse, or an out of left field analogy that some may construe as being apt. A man that has worked his way from a middle of the road upbringing to POTUS can't be written off as lucky. Should Niall Ferguson be compared to Peter Griffin because he's dumb and white? I think not.

Ok ok ok...we're basically in the middle of the summer. For whatever reason besides my melanin, I equate the summer with Hip-Hop and Dancehall more than I do at any other point of the year. I'm not exactly sure if that actually means anything, but if you like it as much or if you are simply in a Dancehall & Hip-Hop mood, you might want to check this place out here. Summertime with Dead Prez

Contrary to popular belief, rappers are not obligated to always have the hottest lyrics and catchiest hook in order to make quality music. A prime example of this lies in the video below, Summertime. While they may not be the most lyrically gifted artists in the game, the substance, perspective, and energy they bring to your ears is definitely a rarity in '09. Not too long ago they released their latest mixtape, The Pulse of the People, with Green Lantern. If you haven't, make sure to cop their first project, and my favorite Hip-Hop album, Lets Get Free.

Pool Party Concert Series! (Free Of Course)

I'm late as crap with this one, but there's still plenty of fun to be had. Above are the dates for the concert series being held at the McCarren Park Pool in Williamsburg, BK. Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Prince Paul, and Girl Talk are the only names that I recognized on the list, but I'm pretty sure there are many more talented artists in store for the people. If you hit it up, let us know how it went!

Doin' it...In the Park...for Free

Just in case, you did not know...Bryant Park goes IN year round. I can't get enough of their free and very entertaining events. So here's another one...free yoga starting today, July 21st, until August 27th. This event will be held every Tuesday morning at 10AM and every Thursday evening at 6PM.

For those of you who don't know, Bryant park is located on 5th avenue and 40th st. in Manhattan.

Dem Nuh Like it

The name's Jahdan, and you probably have heard him most recently on Diplo and Switch's Major Lazer LP, on the song Cash Flow. He's got a mixtape dropping soon entitled, Bazooka Shot, and an album, Buzzrock Warrior. From what I've heard thus far, these two project should be more than solid considering what I have heard. Enjoy Gasoline Dream's first post from the Caribbean!

Baltimore Club & Super Sexy House!

The bad news is...it's been way too long since I've posted here; however, the good news is that I have more than the Pakistani 20 in my wallet that I always carry. Employment and paychecks are two things of which I'm always fond. ANYWAYZ, you all need to check out this group of DJs known as the Rub. It consists of DJs Cosmo Baker, Eleven, and Ayres. Although straight out of NYC, these dudes play rock sets all over the country and world.

This particular mix is a GEM that I thought I lost a while ago, but fortunately found when perusing the library on my old computer. It's all house and bmore mixes that include everyone from Robin Thicke to frat classic Jesse's Girl.

Ok...enough talking...DL one of my favorite mixes here! I guarantee that you won't find it anywhere else since it's 3 years after the fact. Gasoline Dream exclusive I guess.

Hyperpigmentation in Da Pooo?

Last week, over 60 black and Latino day campers were turned away from a swim club in Philadelphia because of complaints by white adult members of the club that, according to the club's president John Duesler, "[A] lot of kids would change the complexion ... and the atmosphere of the club." According to Feministing.com

Here's the the official news article from NBC Philadelphia

50 Best Action Movies of All Time?

Ok...so until I started reading this list that Complex compiled, I didn't realize how much of a fan I am of action movies. I've seen a good two-thirds of this movies, and while I do have some discrepancies with the list...for the most part it's on point. I mean...if it weren't I clearly wouldn't be sharing it. Anyways...check it out.

HIV Positive - AIDS

I stumbled upon this scientifically driven article on the Washington Post website. A lot of times we (myself included) think HIV or AIDS is not that close to home, but I do know someone very very close to me who is infected. He is one of 30.8 Million adults living with the virus according to the international AIDS charity, AVERT.

At first Karen Pancheau figured her son Tyler's nasty rash came from friction on the mats at judo class. But when the rash began dissolving layers of flesh, his father took the teenager for tests, which revealed he had HIV. Karen, too, tested positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, which she'd apparently acquired from a blood transfusion in June 1982 and to which she'd exposed Tyler during childbirth and breast-feeding. Yet as Tyler's HIV slowly progressed to AIDS, Karen remained healthy...

Chocolate Factory

This is a definite departure from the norm at Gasoline Dream, but I figured that might be the reason you could be reading this post now. Sooo...my boy Winslow is baking this chocolate cake over in the Land Down Under as I make this post. Apparently, it's the "Ultimate" chocolate cake. I don't know about all of that...but it looks damn good and could win over some girl's/guy's heart. Click here for the recipe. If you happen to bake it, let us know how it turned out.

Cole Killin' it for NC

It's officially no longer a buzz, J. Cole at Shade 45 with Tony Toca. Check it out.

The Funeral

While it is late, and up on every blog...this video is so much better than all the others in its genre. So it'd be wrong to not acknowledge it with a post. So here it is...the funeral...but if you wear all black in this heat it'll be the death of you too.

Retro Electrik

Time to take a break from the Hip-Hop being shoved down your throats. The link below is to a song by club/rock group Love & Electrik. I saw the post on discobelle. The song, entitled Sex Video, is a club track that is reminiscent of the days when KTU was that deal playing the old school freestyle tracks. Here it is (direct link).

Time to lighten, up the mood. Just so you know before hand, this video is of Andy Roddick's older brother, John, at Wimbledon digging for gold. Enjoy!

Gay Sex Still a Crime?

The actual act of gay sex has just been decriminalized in India. Just goes to show that there are still some pretty far fetched laws out there that for which one can definitely do some hard time...no pun intended.

The ruling overturns a 148-year-old colonial law which describes a same-sex relationship as an "unnatural offence"

Check out the BBC's account of the situation here

Killa Cole

Alright, this is late as crap, but I can't afford to get sued by J. Cole, Jay-Z, or Roc Nation. Here's a really interesting interview he did a while ago too with Complex. In all seriousness, dude is nice. Not as consistent that yellow boy who used to play up on Degrassi, but a bit more lyrical and a lot more "Hip-Hop". Lookout below if you're trying to see what he's about.

The Warm Up

King of POP-sicles

Ok, so I haven't been on my cheap/free grind as of late. As a matter of fact...I haven't been on much of any type of grind except my employment one. Anyhow...from whenever it was posted through tomorrow, SideBar is serving 2 for 1 King of Popsicles. They're margarita popsicles, and you get 2 for $5 while you rock out to MJ without the tom foolery of T-Pain on BET. Choose from original, strawberry, or watermelon...yea. Guess I spoke too soon...whatever...here's the address

118 East 15th St.
New York, NY

The Stoning of Soraya M.

I haven't been posting too many trailers in regards to cinema, so here's an interesting one entitled The Stoning of Soraya M. I'm assuming it'll be pretty insightful in regards to domestic violence as well as equal rights for woman in general on a global level. At the end of the day, I just hope it moves both you and me.

The Red I Always Had

So ummm...yea...Wayne isn't the only one who likes em long haired, thick, and redbone...

Cookin' Pop

Nahright, posted this mixtape not too long ago. I knew some MJ tribute would be coming out whether it be a mix or a mixtape, but I wanted to find something both unique and good. I believe this'll suffice. This is a nice little combination that blends MJ with the world's favorite emcees (the usual top 5). I'm usually not a fan of blends, but once you listen to this, you'll see why the exception was made. Not every track is for you, but I guarantee you'll find something you'll like a lot.

Reverse Racism DOES Exist...

Sorry, for the mini hiatus, but that is what employment does to some people. Anyways, apparently the Supreme Court just recently ruled that White Firefighters out of New Haven, Connecticut were unfairly denied promotions based on the color of their skin. This ruling reversed a decision that Sonia Sotomayor, Obama's Supreme Court nominee, endorsed as an appeals court judge. While it is a victory for many conservatives, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg stated that the men do, "understandably attract this court's sympathy. But they had no vested right to promotion. Nor have other persons received promotions in preference to them." Despite the ruling, what she stated was something very necessary.

Transformers: Racists in Disguise?

So I went to see The Hangover, but ended up seeing Transformers 2. The movie was ok, but it was LONG. I went in at 12:10AM and didn't leave until 3:00AM. Needless to say I fell asleep. Besides the movie being ridiculously violent, I didn't feel any type of way until what chud.com calls "Little Black Sambots" came into the picture. Like the writer of the article says, if anyone is going to make a ridiculous comment that might offend someone, it's me or someone in my circle, but this is just kind of crazy for such a big blockbuster.

Chris Brown just pleaded guilty to one count of assault on Rihanna. Now he's got 5 years probation and six months of community service to complete. Additionally, he is to stay 50 yards away from the pop star and attend classes on domestic violence. Click here for the BBC article concerning the matter.

Clipse & Ye Collabo? Kinda Like a Big Deal

I was already fine with what they were doing, but now they changed how they ride the beat along with

Less crack
New beat selection
Different delivery

After 3 mixtapes, 2 albums, and a bunch of guest appearances, their consistency reassures me that this next project will be just as good as the first two. Here's there new track with Mr. West himself, Kinda Like a Big Deal. By the way, he stabbed the track to death.

NC Ready to Roc

So I'm doing miscellaneous stuff on my laptop, and my fellow LSC afilliate, Rafat, hits me over the head with this news flash about some dude. Can't say I'm chugging the Kool Aid at the moment, but the clip is decent. I saw a couple of posts on nahright but they never really caught my eye. The man's name is J. Cole. He is apparently the first to sign to Jay-Z's label, Roc Nation. Hailing from NC much like on of my favorite duos, Little Brother, it looks everything might be a go...especially since his mixtape, The Warm Up, is supposed to drop today...and Jay-Z is cosigning...not that it really means anything

Ashed Out

The US Senate just approved legislation taking away a bunch of control from the tobacco industry. FDA is definitely about to go IN. If they didn't have it out for Obama in the first place, they probably do now...smh

"For the first time, the $89 billion tobacco industry would have to disclose the ingredients in its products. Under the new authority, the FDA could ban the most harmful of the estimated 6,000 chemicals used in cigarettes, cigars and other tobacco products." - Lyndsey Layton of the Washington Post-

Ok...first off, shoutout to Discobelle for this one. I don't know what is up with my obsession with 80's inspired Electronica or whatever, but it does exist and I can't get enough. This post is for this Swedish up and comer Veronica Maggio. I like her...what do you think? That thing below this is a video for her single "MÃ¥ndagsbarn" that came out late 07 early 08.

Annd here's the "Le Prix" remix to the single. I like it more, but I still rock with the single.

1st Guantanamo Prisoner in NYC

Apparently, the first individual detained in Guantanamo Bay, Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, has just arrived in the Big Apple. He is scheduled to face a US Civilian trial later today, and claims to not have been knowledgeable of the bombing he's for which he is being held accountable. Check it out here at the BBC. Here's a little bit more info from homelandsecurity.org, and take everything with a grain of salt.

She a BOOM

Need a new/different bashment jam for the summer? Play and download this joint from USA 808 over in Israel. I think they have a good idea of how it goes down in the States. Will probably be putting up more stuff from them too.

Ok...so I'm not posting D.O.A. simply because you will be able to find it EVERYwhere else. Apparently Mary J. didn't get the memo; however, I must say if people were using the Autotune sound the same way she does in this song, it wouldn't need a funeral. On another note...Jigga can abolish Autotune but the NAACP can't bury "Nigga"...I'm just sayin...

Anywayz, this song is with Mary J. and Young Flamethrower
