Stingray

New Fool's Gold track courtesy of A-Trak & Zinc.

They call it Sting Ray, and we call it good and fresh out the oven.

Come to think of it....this does sound like an alarm you might hear in a submarine if a giant stingray attacked Godzilla style.

Dubstep remix was also dropped with Benga.

Among the select group of prodigies are three black players from the New York City area - Justus Williams, Joshua Colas, and James Black Jr. - who each became masters before their 13th birthdays.

CMJ 2011: RUN CMJ

Ugh, this is some crappy weather, but today’s showcase with Rocksmith is sure to break more than a couple of necks. STS, King Fantastic, and Dom Kennedy?? Don’t mind if I do attend this appropriately named event.

A little birdie told me a well respected OG from Queensbridge might be rollin through too so um yea…RSVP and I’ll see you there.

CMJ 2011: We Got The Jazz

I'ma be out and about doing what I need to do for this year's CMJ. Last Night I was over at Drom with Brooklyn Bodega for We Got The Jazz where all of the artists showed their asses off.

Below's a pic of the headliner, Kansas City's own, Miles Bonny. Dude is the real deal. Forreal forreal, you should check out his project Lumber Jack Soul. This is also probably one of the dopest titles in a long time.

Fight against Stop-and-Frisk

Past due issue...

Outside City Hall Park, there will be a few speeches. After the demonstration, the students will fan out and visit the offices of City Council members.

They have two purposes.

The first is to protest New York City’s practice of having the police stop and frisk hundreds of thousands of young people, mostly African-Americans and Latinos, an overwhelming majority of whom are charged with nothing.

The second is to do something about it.

Rick Perry's Ties #CMonSon

"Rick Perry, The Apocalypse, and God's Army. Can we get a legit RNC runner who is not tied to crazy. Did McCain ruin that when he sold out and brought Glen Rice's jump off into his campaign?" - Aln Yves

If Governor Rick Perry (R) of Texas runs for president of the United States, he will have one of the most unusual and specific bases for his platform of any candidate in many decades—the spiritual visions of the ancient Hebrew prophet Joel.

Perry has jumped on the “Joel’s Army” bandwagon, claiming in his promotional message for his The Response prayer and fasting event in Houston in August: “Some problems are beyond our power to solve, and according to the Book of Joel, Chapter 2, this historic hour demands a historic response.”

What if Vick were White??

Soo ESPN posted this relatively interesting article written by Touré about Michael Vick, his situation, and if he were white. I don't really agree with the man, but I'll you be your own judge.

All of that is why, to me, Vick seems to have a deeply African-American approach to the game. I'm not saying that a black QB who stands in the pocket ain't playing black. I'm saying Vick's style is so badass, so artistic, so fluid, so flamboyant, so relentless -- so representative of black athletic style -- that if there were a stat for swagger points, Vick would be the No. 1 quarterback in the league by far.

Race is an undeniable and complex element of Vick's story, both because of his style as well as the rarity of black QBs in the NFL.

Brief Atlantic

So, things haven't been updated as much as they need to be as of late, nonetheless you're still ahead of the curve so keep checking in. This is some realllly dope music from OFWGKTA's afilliate, Frank Ocean.

Fresh sound with unusual content for an R&B dude. Normally you hear about all the emotional stuff behind relationships etc., but Ocean is able to do all of this and more. From the social commentary on "We All Believe" to his heartbroken banger "Swims Good", Frank is able to draw you in hook, line, and sinker, on the first listen with original content. This is something most artists let alone R&B artists suck at as of late. He can do traditional R&B, futuristic and spacey, and alternative as well. Needless to say, this negro is cultured and here to stay.

Asian Female MC

Shots at the Grammy Family

You might've heard about Steve Stoute's letter to the NARAS and the Grammys. If not check out the link here. He makes a clear argument about how he feels and what the establishment is doing.

Where I think that the Grammys fail stems from two key sources: (1) over-zealousness to produce a popular show that is at odds with its own system of voting and (2) fundamental disrespect of cultural shifts as being viable and artistic.

Below is also really good post commentary from well respected Jermaine Dupri who was president of the Atlanta Chapter of the organization. ( I didn't even know there were regional chapters)

Talk about balance...hahaha

When Duane Reade opened a new store a few months ago in Brooklyn, it faced opposition from residents loyal to a local pharmacy. So it decided to include something in the store that the neighborhood did not have: a bar that specializes in beer.
